The Maldives has welcomed over 700,000 tourists so far this year, with China emerging as the leading source market. Arrival figures show a strong start to the year, with 56,136 visitors recorded in just the first 11 days of April.

China's position at the top marks a significant rebound in its outbound travel market. The government has set an ambitious target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals for the entire year, which would be a record for the nation. The surge in visitors is already having a direct impact on state finances, with tourism-related taxes, including TGST and Green Tax, seeing substantial increases
